Medical gas cylinder supply systems are dedicated solutions for the storage and distribution of medical gases. Their function is to ensure continuous gas supply to the pipeline network, maintaining constant levels of purity and safety through configurations designed to comply with applicable regulations, including UNI EN ISO 7396-1.
Within healthcare facilities, a properly sized medical gas cylinder system reduces the risk of supply interruptions and enables more effective management of gas reserves and automatic changeover between cylinder sources.
A medical gas cylinder supply system may consist of several integrated components, selected according to the type of gas, required flow rates and continuity of supply:
- Pressure reduction station
The core of the system, where gas pressure is reduced and stabilized before being fed into the distribution pipeline. - Medical gas manifolds Designed to connect cylinders to the pressure reduction station, ensuring reliable automatic changeover and orderly cylinder management.
- Semi-rigid connections and high-pressure copper pigtails Used to connect cylinders to the manifolds or to link manifolds to the pressure reduction station.
- Emergency pressure reduction station Designed to guarantee continuity of supply during maintenance operations or emergency conditions, keeping the pipeline operational in accordance with applicable standards.
Oxygen pressure reduction systems can be configured with three supply sources, or with an emergency backup function supporting a liquid oxygen (LOX) tank not supplied by STM.
In this configuration, a dedicated connection links the distribution line from the evaporator to the pressure reduction station, complete with oxygen manifold collectors.
STM-manufactured medical gas cylinder supply systems are designed to meet technical requirements and configurations applicable both in Italy and in international markets, adapting to different distribution practices:
- Two-stage distribution systems, commonly used in parts of Europe and in French-speaking countries
- Low-pressure systems, more frequently adopted in Northern Europe and Balkan regions
- HTM-compliant pipeline systems, typically required in English-speaking countries, in line with local standards and design practices
Through this approach, STM offers modular medical gas cylinder supply systems designed to integrate seamlessly with the healthcare facility’s distribution network and to ensure long-term operational reliability.
